Senior School Life Skills Programme

The Life Skills Programme is an initiative aimed at equipping Year 12 students in readiness to make the transition to Year 13. This year’s event ran between Monday 18th June and Friday 29th June. The students had a full schedule of events in which they explored critical elements of their next phase of education.

There was a big focus on university application processes with a mixture of lectures, group discussions and presentations by institutions from Australia, Canada and the USA. Two highlights were presentations by Strathmore University from Nairobi as well as the Africa Leadership University based in Mauritius.

A short but enlightening and entertaining Work Experience training presentation also helped prepare students for their upcoming placements. Lastly, the students attended a Turi Leadership Award (TLA) expedition in Eldoret, during which they worked with students from a local primary and secondary school on various initiatives including upgrading their facilities, taking part in a sporting competition as well as interacting with the students from those schools in more informal settings.
The expedition forms part of the overall TLA assessment. It was a valuable experience which stretched students beyond their comfort zones in addition to providing them with the opportunity to practise vital life skills such as cooking and cleaning.
During the Life Skills Programme, the Year 12 students were introduced to BridgeU, an online university and careers research platform which will undoubtedly add huge value to the students as they seek to make informed decisions about their university destinations.
